One resistance reading and a rough temperature estimate can often identify the sensor family, but different 10 kΩ NTC curves can be very close around room temperature. Check controller documentation, sensor markings, or take another reading at a different temperature before changing configuration.

How to identify an unknown passive temperature sensor

In field work you often know only two things: the resistance measured from the sensor and a rough idea of the actual temperature. The identifier checks which supported sensor curves could produce that resistance inside the estimated temperature range.

A result is a candidate, not automatic proof of the sensor type. Several NTC curves can produce similar resistance values around room temperature. Manufacturer information, controller documentation, sensor markings, or another resistance measurement at a different temperature can help separate them.

Why an NTC value alone is not enough

Names such as NTC 10K and NTC 1.8K usually describe a nominal resistance at a reference temperature. They do not by themselves define one universal resistance to temperature curve. The tool therefore keeps different published NTC characteristics separate and shows aliases only where a known compatibility relationship exists.

The current database includes IEC 60751 platinum RTDs, JIS C 1611 element interchangeable thermistors, legacy DIN nickel characteristics, Siemens compatible Ni1000 LG / TK5000, and common HVAC thermistor families used by Produal, Belimo, BAPI, Thermokon, Trend, Distech, Schneider / Andover, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Carel, Sauter and Satchwell.

Published manufacturer tables are used for table based curves. Formula based curves use their documented coefficients. Source links are shown with the selected sensor so the engineering data can be checked against the original documentation.
